This night was incredibly hot anyway a lot of the audience this night was rude and had little regard for people and it seemed a lot of the crowd didn't get the music. From a musical perspective theyre always good and were good this night, but based on what they have the ability to do and what Ive experienced this show isn't that exciting. Carry that weight , Eleven, Stella and Ripple were highlights for me.
The DSO show was definitely superior, but the circumstances were different, Thurs. was a breezy 70 degree night when DSO played and everyone had just arrived, plenty of energy.. surviving the 103 degree heat, blistering sun and humidity on Friday took its toll... was hoping the sun going down would cool things down..no such luck, it was about 100 degrees throughout their set.

This is a serious question, unlike Lankster below I have great respect for this band and the lineup, including John K.
However, after having been to numerous shows before and after this I feel confident in saying that this was not one of their better performances.
There were moments, such as FOTD and SS > 11 that were good but overall I can only rate this outing 2.5 stars.
Also, to address the question concerning DSO, I think that people draw comparisons because both bands played at the GOTV that year and the DSO show was far superior in my opinion.
I guess I just didn't feel any energy at all during this show, it was super slllooowww, and it seemed like the band was phoning it in, the jam in Let It Grow and Stella Blue (both of which are normally in my top 10 favorite songs of all time) is a case in point - just no "punch".
That being said, this recording is good quality and captures the show as best as possible. The speaker set up at GOTV made the band sound echo-y and thin, at least to me.
I dunno, maybe I am wrong, but this one just didn't do it for me and I've been to quite a few Grateful Dead and post-Dead related shows in my lifetime. I think the reason the show lacked that spark was the fact that it was nearly 110 degress that day and everyone - crowd, band, crew, everyone - was just totally sapped.

This set they played at Vibes was probably the greatest Dead show I've seen, It was definatly my favorite Furthur set I've seen live to date. I loved the setlist I was stoked to hear Mason's Children to close the first set and then opening the 2nd set with Saint Stephen into The Eleven it was a raging party out on the concert field! Does anyone know if this will be availible on regular MP3? I can't get these files to go unto my Itunes.

I'm just not understanding the comparison between Furthur and DSO. Have we forgotten that you really can't compete with Bobby and Phil?
That said, this is a great recording. I'm just counting down the days until Raleigh and Simpsonville.

Wish I went. This recording is fabulous!
On the negativity, I would like to let everyone have a say, good or bad, but consider this: Some might say JK is giving Phil, Bobby and all of us what we missed when Jerry himself could not play much of a lick because of the evil stuff. That is a good thing, and it should be recognized. GO JK!

OK so no Dark Star but a GREAT setlist, and at times the vocals were magnificant. The best Friend of the Devil in years that I have heard.
